Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever
Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever may be transmitted to dogs by the American dog tick, however the disease syndrome in dogs is not well-defined. The disease appears to be most prevalent in purebred dogs and dogs younger than three years old.
Symptoms:
Symptoms include fever, chills, headache, abdominal pain, diarrhea, vomiting, excessive bleeding of the mucus membrane, and neurological symptoms.
Treatment:
Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever is usually treated with a course of antibiotics. Most dogs without neurological deficits improve within 24 to 48 hours. You should consult your veterinarian for proper treatment of your dog.
