Dr. Eugene B. Golub: Deputy Mayor

Dr. Eugene Golub has served on the Freehold Township Committee since February, 1996. He served as Mayor in 2008 and 2002 and Deputy Mayor in 1998, 1999, 2001, 2005 and 2007.

Dr. Golub chairs the Township’s Planning, Zoning & Engineering sub-committees. Previous to his service on the Township Committee, he was active in the Township as Chairman of the Environmental Commission. Dr. Golub also serves on the Planning Board. He previously served on the Planning Board last year and the Board of Adjustment in 2002. He is currently the Township's liaison to the Freehold Township Elementary School and Freehold Regional High School.

Dr. Golub has worked diligently on behalf of Freehold Township’s environment. As the Township Committee’s liaison to a group made up of members of the Lake Topanemus Commission and Freehold Township Environmental Commission, Golub was instrumental in developing a plan to restore and conserve Lake Topanemus and its surrounding park. After much hard work and study, this group presented to the Township Committee, in 1997, the Lake Topanemus Watershed Management Plan. This Plan has received numerous accolades. The Monmouth County Planning Board selected the project for its 1997 Merit Award and the Association of New Jersey Environmental Commissions honored it with its Environmental Achievement Award. The Lake Topanemus Watershed Management Plan is now used by other municipalities throughout the State as a model for their watershed management needs.

Dr. Golub also co-chaired the Township’s award-winning Open Space Committee. This Committee completed the town’s Open Space and Recreation Master Plan, which outlines steps for land preservation. This plan also received honors as it was recognized March 31, 1998 by the Monmouth Conservation Foundation with the Twenty Stars for Twenty People Award.

Dr. Golub serves on the State of New Jersey’s Water Supply Advisory Council.

Dr. Golub has resided in Freehold Township for over 30 years. He is a Professor of Civil and Environmental Engineering at the New Jersey Institute of Technology in Newark.
